Winter Airport Attire

Winter Airport Attire

Are you one of those people that doesn’t really think about what they are going to wear on their upcoming trip, specifically to the airport? Well, let me tell you it is essential to make sure you look your very best when you get to the airport. But, don’t worry you do not have to sacrifice comfort for style. Here is a few ideas on what you can wear to the airport to start your amazing adventure in a comfortable stylish manner this winter.

One of the first things to consider is the length of your flight. Obviously if your flight is less than three hours you pretty much have open reign as to what to wear. Layering up is a good idea. I recommend a white tee shirt, jeans and a tweed jacket. For shoes comfortable booties and don’t forget a plaid cashmere scarf for accent. Compression socks are only important if recommended by your doctor. I always wear my compression socks regardless of the length of the flight.

Now let’s talk about long trips especially transatlantic flights, where you want to look your very best, but your number one priority is comfort. Before you can put your outfit together have you considered what part of the world you are traveling to, if you are going straight to a meeting or your hotel? These questions are important to help you decide on the best outfit.

Assuming you are going on a long trip minimum six hours and upon arrival you will be heading straight to your hotel, here is what I have found is the ideal airport attire.

Socks

For me compression socks are very important because they help with circulation. There are several options out there, but I found these socks are colorful and work just as promised. Once I have my socks then I focus on the actual outfit.

Now for the rest of the outfit here is where it gets a little tricky. Some people do not like to wear long pants on flights and prefer a dress or skirt. Others prefer leggins. So I will break down the various options and you can pick on what suits you best.

Pants

For trousers on the market right now the main feature selling point is the water-repellent and quick-drying materials that are being designed to fit your stylish wardrobe. Another consideration is that looser fit breathable pants are ideal for warmer destinations. One of my favorite is the Eileen Fisher Flex Tencel Ponte Straight Pant This trouser is fluid yet structured. It makes a perfect choice for travel, but al so any other occasion.

If however, you decide you prefer a dress or skirt. Consider wearing tights to help keep your legs warm. For me, I found trousers work best.

Shirt

For me a white camisole always works and it definitely is comfortable. You can decide to wear a short sleeve or long sleeve, I prefer on long winter trips to go with the long sleeve. The JCrew Crewneck pullover in vintage cotton terry is very soft. Another one of my favorites is the Eileen Fisher Flex Tencel Ponte Box-Top in white. Either one works perfectly. If you decide to layer your shirts start with a light t-shirt or camisole and then layer it with a button-up blouse. This helps free up space in your suitcase and looks like you actually put it together.

Shoes

As you know your feet ten to swell during long flights so it is imperative that you wear comfortable shoes that are easy to put on and take off. If space in your luggage is an issue then I recommend you wearing boots. However, keep in mind that you should not remove your boots because you will have a very hard time putting them back on when they start announcing to prepare for landing. Unless your boots are extremely loose, then I suggest staying away from wearing boots.

My favorite travel shoes are the Tieks by Gavrieli. These flats are made of the finest Italian leather and fold to fit in a purse. So imagine, I own several colors. These are great travel shoes because you can pack several colors and still have room for your heels and even your boots. They are flexible, comfortable, durable and come in more than 60 colors.

The most versatile flats in the world. Made of the finest Italian leathers and designed to fold and fit in a purse. Wearable all day, every day.

Jacket

Of course you cannot forget your outerwear. This is by far one of the most important wardrobe pieces to consider when traveling. Besides my cashmere camel coat which I usually give to the stewardess to hang I always travel with my cashmere wrap. My go to designer is Beryll it’s affordable and always looks great. For the coast I like Beryll Cashmere Coat or the Beryll Sleeveless Cashmere Cardigan. Either one works, but if you want to splurge, then I highly recommend the Loro Piana Cashmere Wrap with fringes. It’s classic and will never go out of style.

Accessories

Finally, your accessories also needs a bit of planning. First consider your scarf. I am sure you have already packed several different options in your suitcase. But, for your flights consider a soft cotton scarf long enough to wrap around your neck without it being too short. If you have decided to wear a white t-shirt with black or beige trousers which usually is the best choice then you can splurge on a colorful scarf to accent your outfit.

One other item I always travel with is my own blanket and sleep mask. I like to know that these items are mine to use on the airplane and to take with me when I land. Again, I am partial to cashmere and there are great brands out there to consider. One in particular which I actually like NakedCashmere. If you want to travel in style, consider this three piece set which includes the drawstring bag with your blanket and eye mask. I use mine all the time and am very happy with it.

Don’t forget to bring along some rose water to spray your face and drinks lots of water as you do not want to become dehydrated.

Safe travels.
