Hidden Gem in the Heart of Iceland
One of the most unexplored areas of Iceland are the black sand beaches at Trollaskagi Peninsula which are approximately a fifteen minute drive from the airport. However, people still flock to the well known Blue Lagoon. This has become overcrowded, but good news is in the horizon for anyone who can travel to this destination.
The new Retreat at the Blue Lagoon slated to open in the spring will allow guest the opportunity to explore the blue waters practically all to themselves. Located on the southwest side of the lagoon it is built into a private eight hundred year old moss-covered lava flow.
Scheduled to open April 1 , 2018, the resort has 62 elegant suits with a balcony or terrace each encircled by the waters of the Blue Lagoon. Each room will have one wall entirely of glass with a standalone bathtub that looks out onto the horizon. The resort will also include an underground spa, a mineral-rich lagoon, and an amazing restaurant that will leave you wanting more.

The subterranean spa will have a heated steam room, fire pit, and sauna. If you’d rather be swimming in the Lava Lagoon there will be a private swimming hole which is just an extension of the actual Blue Lagoon. However, if you decide to splurge and go to the spa be prepared to definitely try out the “in-water” massage where you will lay on a floating mattress lightly submerged in the lagoon while a therapist applies salt glows and algae wraps before your actual massage.

The retreat itself along with the guest suites will hold a cozy lounge and a library for those times you just want to relax after a day of exploring. A true hidden gem.
